Universities and colleges hold "open house" when you can visit the place, enter classes, see the dorms, etc. It is very important to actually visit the university or college you´re applying to (or planning to apply to), even outside the "open house" period. Some things that look great on the web or in a brochure might turn out to be disappointing in person.
